SOLUTION

Maersk chose the FloBoss S600+ to provide flow measurement

and monitoring functions for totalization, alarm monitoring, valve

monitoring and control. Their front end metering is performed by 11

FloBoss S600+ f l ow computers. The system confi guration involves

dual stream gas orifi ce, dual stream liquid turbine, four stream

Coriolis meter and four stream VCone.

The FloBoss S600+ is designed to provide standalone fl ow metering.

The OPC server will collate the data from each FloBoss S600+ fl ow

computers and pass this to the Maersk control system. The OPC

Server is used as an interface between the FloBoss S600+ Flow

computers and the Maersk control system.

Maersk acknowledged the FloBoss S600+ is the ideal replacement

and provides the functionality they require. This versatile fl ow

computer can be confi gured to meet their specifi c requirements.

During this hot cutover, the installation into existing cabinets has

proven to be straightforward with minimal disruption to metering

operations during the change out period.  Maersk continues to work

with Emerson and has confi dence in their professional approach,

wide knowledge and experience of fi scal metering systems.

Emerson continues to offer fl ow computer solutions including

upgrades and EExd cabinets for installation in hazardous areas.

Maersk Oil in Denmark

CHALLENGE

Maersk had over 30 old Sentinel 500 fl ow computers installed on

their offshore platforms that were having obsolescence issues. With

the lack of available spares and support for the aging f l ow computer

and DEC supervisory computer, the risk to their metering operations

greatly increased. Their entire operation was at risk particularly

in losing fi scal metering data to accounting systems, associated

partners and third parties.

Config600 Pro enables you to build, send, receive, and

edit FloBoss S600+ configurations. Config600 Pro

provides a full configuration workbench, and is for

users who need to have full control over their application.

Config600 Lite allows you to send, receive and edit

existing configurations, and is suggested for users

whose configurations have been initially created by

their local sales channel, integrator, or the factory.

Config600 Lite+ includes the features of Config600 Lite,

and adds the functionality of the Configuration Generator.

The Configuration Generator is included with

Config600 Lite+ and Config600 Pro, and allows you to

create configurations and specify the number of

stations and meter runs, meter run types, and the

calculation method.

The PCSetup Program is included with all versions of

Config600 software, and allows you to tailor the

configuration to the process by adding, deleting, or

changing the process parameters. The process

parameters include engineering units, I/O parameters,

communications port parameters, archiving and

reporting parameters, meter constants, calculation

initialization modes, totalizer parameters, alarm limits,

and security access (password and user names).

The Transfer Program is included with all versions of

Config600 software and can download the

configuration into the flash memory of a FloBoss

S600+. The program can upload the configuration

from the device to a PC. It also permits software

upgrades in the field.

The Config600™ Configuration Software Suite

(Config600) provides tools that enable you to

configure FloBoss™ S600+ Flow Computers. Config600

enables you to transfer an existing FloBoss S600

configuration into a new or upgraded FloBoss S600+

(although some manual configuration changes may be required).

Config600 software consists of the following

components and features:

▪ Windows®-based, easy to use interface.

▪ Separate configuration and maintenance applications.

▪ LogiCalc scripting language.

▪ Password security.

▪ Common application templates.

Config600 software is designed for ease of use. Dialog

boxes help direct selections and data entry. Drop

down menus and pre-loaded field values guide you

through the process of building configurations.

Three versions of Config600 are available.

▪ Config600 Pro

▪ Config600 Lite+

▪ Config600 Lite

Upgrading from the Original FloBoss S600 to the New

FloBoss S600+

1. We have a large installed base of FloBoss S600s, but we want to

upgrade to the FloBoss S600+. Can we do this without replacing

the complete machine?

Yes. The upgrade process is relatively straightforward. First, save the existing FloBoss

S600 confi guration. Then disconnect and remove the original CPU module from the

case. Next, you insert the enhanced CPU module, and then download the original

confi guration fi le to the FloBoss S600+.

The new FloBoss S600+ now operates in the exact same way as the previous FloBoss

S600s, and the new features of the FloBoss S600+ are also available.

2. We are planning to upgrade our FloBoss S600s to the FloBoss

S600+, we plan on buying the required upgrade kits but will we

need a new version of Config600?

To upgrade from a FloBoss S600 to the FloBoss S600+, if none of the new features/

functionality is required, then you can still use the original version of Confi g 600 (this

must be version 1.4d or later).

While this can be carried out with Confi g600 version IPL600. the upload download

tool, it is recommended that this is carried out with a Confi g600 lite license or higher

(Confi g600 Lite+ or Confi g600 Pro).

If any the new features of the FloBoss S600+ are required, then the confi guration

must be updated with Confi g600 Pro version 3.xx or later and downloaded into the

upgraded S600+ fl ow computer.

As with all fi rmware or hardware changes it is recommended that the upgraded

FloBoss S600+ fl ow computer is tested before being put into service.

3. I have a Pro level license for Config600 v2.7. but I now want to use

the new features provided by the FloBoss S600+. How do I get a new

version of Config600 that will allow me to use the new features?

Please download the latest version from Supportnet®  and then then apply for a new

license using the online instructions from the tool. If you already have a valid license

for a particular version (such as Confi g lite), you will be able to get a similar license for

the latest version.

If you do not have a valid license yet, you will need to contact your local sales

representative.

FloBoss S600 Interfaces

1. Does the Operator Interface via the front

display panel change on the FloBoss S600+?

Is the change transparent, or is training

required?

With the exception of a cosmetic change, the front display

panel and operator interface work as before. No re-training is

required.

2. Will the Ethernet ports on the FloBoss S600+

remain as a Modbus over Ethernet interface as

per the current FloBoss S600 machine?

The fi rst Ethernet port on the FloBoss S600+ generally

remains unchanged. A second Ethernet port (previously

available only on an option module) is now standard on

the FloBoss S600+. The supported protocols will remain

Modbus/TCP and Modbus over Ethernet. Previously, both

ports were limited to 10MB/s and half duplex. Now, both

ports have the option of running at 100MB/s in full duplex

mode.

3. The current FloBoss S600 version stores the

required information points in a Modbus

register map. Does this methodology

change on the FloBoss S600+, and are all

information points still available via Modbus

communications?

The Modbus register map remains the same.

4. If the Modbus structure remains, does the

previously-developed Modbus polling for the

existing FloBoss S600 remain the same, or do

we need to define a new software interface for

the FloBoss S600+?

The existing interface remains compatible with the FloBoss

S600+. The available baud rates have increased from

between 300 and 38.400 on the existing FloBoss S600 to

between 2.400 and 57.600 on the new FloBoss S600+.

5. Does the web interface to the existing FloBoss

S600 change on the FloBoss S600+?

The web server interface on the FloBoss S600+ is compatible

with the existing FloBoss S600. We have enhanced the

interface to improve security and provide additional

diagnostic capabilities.
