ABB NTDI02 Digital I/O Termination Unit Overview

Overview

Intended User

Section 1

The NTDI02 Digital I/O Termination Unit is a Harmony rack

I/O device that is part of the Symphony Enterprise Manage

ment and Control System. It provides a signal path for up to

16 input signals to the following I/O modules. The inputs are

used by the controller to monitor and control a process.

• Analog output module (IMASO11).

• Digital input module (IMDSI13. IMDSI14. and IMDSI22).

• Pulse input module (IMDSM04).

• Digital output module (IMDSO14 and IMDSO15).

• Frequency counter module (IMFCS01).

Figure 1-1 shows the Harmony rack I/O architecture. A Har

mony area controller and the Harmony rack controllers can

use the rack I/O module and termination units for I/O interface.

Personnel installing, operating, or maintaining the NTDI02 ter

mination unit should read this instruction before performing

any installation, operation, or maintenance procedures. Instal

lation requires an engineer or technician with experience

handling electronic circuitry. Those working with the NTDI02

termination unit should have experience working with and

know the precautions to take around AC/DC power. A knowl

edge of the Symphony system and electronic principles is also required.

ABB NTDI02 Digital I/O Termination Unit

The NTDI02 Digital I/O Termination Unit is a Harmony rack

I/O device that is part of the Symphony Enterprise Manage

ment and Control System. It provides a signal path between

field I/O signals and the following I/O modules.

• Analog output module (IMASO11).

• Digital input module (IMDSI13. IMDSI14. and IMDSI22).

• Pulse input module (IMDSM04).

• Digital output module (IMDSO14 and IMDSO15).

• Frequency counter module (IMFCS01).

The NTDI02 is not a direct replacement for the NTDI01; how

ever, it is a functional replacement for the NTDI01.

This instruction explains the NTDI02 termination unit specifi

cations and operation. It details the procedures necessary to

complete setup, installation, maintenance, repair, and replace

ment of the termination unit.

NOTE: The NTDI02 termination unit is fully compatible with existing INFI 90®

OPEN and Symphony™ Enterprise Management Systems.

ABB DI814 System 800xA hardware selector

Features and benefits

• 16 channels for 24 V d.c. inputs with current sinking

• 2 isolated groups of 8 with voltage supervision

• Input status indicators

The input voltage range is 18 to 30 volt dc and the input current

source is 6 mA at 24 V. The inputs are divided into two individualy

isolated groups with eight channels and one voltage supervision

input in each group. Every input channel consists of current limiting

components, EMC protection components, input state indication

LED and optical isolation barrier. The process voltage supervision

input give channel error signals if the voltage disappears. The error

signal can be read through the ModuleBus.

DI810 ABB Ability™ System 800xA® hardware selector

This module has 16 digital inputs. The input voltage range is 18 to 30

volt d.c. and the input current is 6 mA at 24 V. The inputs are divided

into two individualy isolated groups with eight channels and one

voltage supervision input in each group. Every input channel

consists of current limiting components, EMC protection

components, input state indication LED and optical isolation barrier.

The process voltage supervision input give channel error signals if

the voltage disappears. The error signal can be read via the

ModuleBus.

Features and benefits

• 16 channels for 24 V d.c. inputs with current sinking

• Two isolated groups of 8 with voltage supervision

• Input status indicators

ABB DI803 System 800xA hardware selector

The DI803 is an 8 channel 230 V a.c./d.c.digital input module for the

S800 I/O. This module has 8 digital inputs. The a.c. input voltage

range is 164 – 264 volt and the input current is 7.6 mA at 230 V a.c.

The d.c. input range is 175 – 275 V and the input current is 1.6 mA at

220 V. The inputs are individualy isolated. Every input channel

consists of current limiting components, EMC protection

components, input state indication LED and optical isolation barrier.

ABB DO801 System 800xA hardware selector

The DO801 is a 16 channel 24 V digital output module for the S800

I/O. The output voltage range is 10 to 30 volt and the maximum

continuous output current is 0.5 A. The outputs are protected

against short circuits, over voltage and over temperature.

The outputs are in one isolated group. Each output channel consists of a

short circuit and over temperature protected high side driver, EMC

protection components, inductive load suppression, output state

indication LED and optical isolation barrier.

Features and benefits

• 16 channels for 24 V d.c. current sourcing outputs

ABB DO802 System 800xA hardware selector

The DO802 is an 8 channel 110 V d.c./250 V a.c. relay (NO) output

module for the S800 I/O. The maximum voltage range is 250 V and

the maximum continuous output current is 2 A. Al outputs are

individualy isolated. Each output channel consists of optical

isolation barrier, output state indication LED, relay driver, relay and
