PLC CPUs IC697CPX928 Central Processing Unit Installation

Installation

It is the responsibility of the OEM, system integrator,

or end user to properly install the PLC equipment for

safe and reliable operation.  Product manuals provide

detailed information about installation, startup, and

proper use of the PLC equipment.  The installation

manual, shipped with your PLC programming

software, describes how to properly install the equipment.

If the PLC installation must comply with supported

standards, such as FCC or CE Directives, please refer

to the Installation Requirements for Conformance to

Standards, shipped with the PLC programming

software, for additional guidelines.

Installation should not be attempted without refer

ring to the applicable Programmable Controller Installation Manual.

Connect the battery to either of the battery connec

tors on the module (see Figure 2).

Put the toggle switch in the STOP position.

Put the keyswitch in the Memory Protection OFF position.

Make sure that rack power is off.

Install the CPX 928 module in slot 1 of rack 0 (see Figure 1).

Turn on power

PLC CPUs IC697CPX928 Central Processing Unit Operation

Operation, Protection, and Module Status

Operation of this module can be controlled by the

three-position RUN/STOP switch or remotely by an

attached programmer and programming software.

Program and configuration data can be locked

through software passwords or manually by the

memory protect keyswitch.  When the key is in the

protected position, program and configuration data can

only be changed by a programmer connected parallel

only (to the Bus Transmitter module).  The status of a

CPU is indicated by the seven green LEDs on the

front of the module.

Operating Temperature

The CPX 928 requires forced air cooling for proper

operation in ambient temperatures greater than 50C

(122 F).  A fan capable of 70 CFM (including filters)

should be located beneath slot 1 of the rack containing

the CPU.

Fan assemblies (IC697ACC 721. IC697ACC724. and

IC697ACC744) can be ordered for direct mounting on

the IC697 rack.  Refer to the applicable Programmable

Controller Installation Manual for detailed information.

User RAM Memory

The CPX928 has a built-in memory board with 6

Mbytes of battery-backed CMOS RAM memory for

user data (program, configuration, and register data) storage.

User Flash Memory

The CPX928 has 256K of built-in, non-volatile flash

memory for user data (program, configuraton, and

register data) storage.  Use of this flash memory is optional.

Firmware Storage in Flash Memory

This CPU uses flash memory for storing the operating

system firmware.  This allows firmware to be updated

without disassembling the module or replacing

EPROMs.  The operating system firmware is updated

by connecting a PC compatible computer to the mod

ule’s serial port and running the software included

with the firmware upgrade kit.

Security S710D Two-Way Multiprotocol Overview

Overview

The S710D data transceiver provides two-way transmission of

multiprotocol data over two multimode fibers.

Data Translation

The S710D also features the unique data translation function that

allows input of one data format and output of a different format.  Data

formats are selected during installation and can be easily changed in

the field via rotary switch.

Superior Diagnostics

The SMARTS™ diagnostic technology provides an extensive array of

system status LEDs.  The integrity of the data paths can be tested with

a built-in data transmission test generator. It is not necessary to

connect to an external data device.

VersaMax IC200PNS002-AC PROFINET Scanner Modules ATEX Marking

ATEX Marking

II 3 G   Ex nA IIC T5 X 0°C

Module Installation

Modules must be mounted on a DIN rail.

1. Allow sufficient finger clearance for opening PNS door.

2. Allow adequate clearance for communications port cables.

3. Allow adequate space for power wiring.

The PNS with power supply attached fits into a 70mm deep enclosure.

Rated thermal specifications are based on a minimum clearance of 5.1cm

(2in) above and below the equipment and 2.54cm (1in) to the left of the

PNS module.

You may need to allow more space for installation of cables and

connectors than what is required for heat dissipation. To avoid impacting

mechanical reliability and signal quality, cable installation must comply

with the minimum bend radius specified by the cable manufacturer.

Grounding

The VersaMax PROFINET Scanner must have a separate shield ground connection to provide shielding for its two ports.

Attach a wire with a stab-on connector to the grounding terminal on the bottom of the module. Connect a ring terminal on

the other end of the wire to a grounded enclosure. Where the ring terminal contacts a painted enclosure panel, either install

a star lock washer between the terminal and the panel to cut through the paint, or scrape the paint away down to clean,

bare metal to ensure a good contact. Note: The star lock washer method is suitable for a shield ground, but not suitable for

a safety ground.

VersaMax IC200PNS002-AC PROFINET Scanner Modules

General Installation Requirements

This product is intended for use with the Product Sub Family system. Its components are considered open

equipment (having live electrical parts that may be accessible to users) and must be installed in an ultimate

enclosure that is manufactured to provide safety. As a minimum, the enclosure shall provide a degree of

protection against solid objects up to 12mm (e.g. fingers). This equates to a NEMA/UL Type 1 enclosure or an

IP20 rating (IEC60529) providing at least a pollution degree 2 environment.

Installation in Hazardous Areas

The following information is for products bearing the UL marking for Hazardous Locations or ATEX marking for

explosive atmospheres:

▪ EQUIPMENT LABELED WITH REFERENCE TO CLASS I, GROUPS A, B, C & D, DIV. 2 HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS IS

SUITABLE FOR USE IN CLASS I, DIVISION 2. GROUPS A, B, C, D OR NON-HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS ONLY

▪ Equipment labeled with  II 3 G is suitable for use in Group 2 Category 3 environments.

▪ WARNING – EXPLOSION HAZARD – SUBSTITUTION OF COMPONENTS MAY IMPAIR SUITABILITY FOR CLASS I,

DIVISION 2;

▪ WARNING – EXPLOSION HAZARD – WHEN IN HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS, TURN OFF POWER BEFORE REPLACING

OR WIRING MODULES; AND

▪ WARNING – EXPLOSION HAZARD – DO NOT DISCONNECT EQUIPMENT UNLESS POWER HAS BEEN SWITCHED

OFF OR THE AREA IS KNOWN TO BE NONHAZARDOUS.

▪  WARNING – EXPLOSION HAZARD – USB PORT IS ONLY FOR USE IN NONHAZARDOUS LOCATIONS, DO NOT

USE UNLESS AREA IS KNOWN TO BE NON-HAZARDOUS.
