ABB Spare parts health and functional check (on-site)

Spare parts health and functional check (on-site)

The spare parts critical to commercial operation (noble parts;

ex.: boards, power supply), will be installed directly on the

existing excitation system and the functionality of all parts will

be confirmed. This will require the excitation system and the

machine to be available for testing.

Spare parts health and functional check (at the factory)

Upon request, the health and functional check may be performed in

our factory. The spare parts must be carefully packed and shipped

to ABB. Once they arrive, they will be inspected and tested at our

supplier factory in order verify their correct functionality. We

recommend that spare part boards (PCB) containing electrolytic

capacitors should be tested every four years.

Parts Fingerprint

The Parts Fingerprint provides you with a complimentary

recommended spare parts list or, if a detailed list of the spare

parts is provided, a list of the recommended parts that are

missing can be prepared. This can be done, for example, as part

of a performance review. We will also keep you informed about

critical aging processes of vital components.

ABB Product and part life cycle report (annual)

Product and part life cycle report (annual)

The Product Life Cycle annual report is a summary of the

excitation system parts availability and life cycle status. It will

also detail which new material can replace the obsolete ones and

if a mechanical adaptation is needed.

Control upgrade solution (preferential price)

ABB has designed a front-end control upgrade solution using the

latest excitation technology, the UNITROL 6000. for excitation

systems in the Limited or Obsolete phase. It is an efficient

solution that extends the life of the system and brings it to the

Active phase of the Product Life Cycle.

Performance review (preferential price)

The ABB performance review program is designed to ensure

the proper and safe operation of all your UNITROL excitation

products. We accomplish this by running tests on all critical

protection devices and system settings in various operating

conditions. We then prepare a report based on the findings, and

make recommendations on how to keep unplanned downtime at

a minimum.

ABB On-site critical spare parts assessment

Unlimited phone support

Technical phone support will be provided by the local support

center. During normal business hours (excluding holidays).

Technical support is also available for emergency cases, 24/7/365.

On-site troubleshooting dispatch prioritization

The ABB service hotline team will trigger an internal dispatch alert

and escalation process, immediately upon receiving customer’s

confirmation to dispatch a service engineer to site. The support

line will transfer all information and technical documentation

available for the service to the assigned service engineer.

Annual support usage report (available on demand)

ABB will provide an annual usage report on demand. This will

summarize all support activities provided during the Excitation

Care Program for a period of 12 months.

On-site critical spare parts assessment

The on-site critical spare parts assessment is designed to gather

all necessary information such as software and hardware version,

ABB reference number and quantity of the available spare parts

on-site directly from the customer site. It will then be compiled

in a detailed list by our specialist and provided to the customer

contact person.

ABB Excitation Care Optimizing the performance of your system

Excitation Care provides peace of mind and reassurance to your maintenance team.

They will know who to call in case of emergency, theterms and conditions

of sale will be defined in advance; therefore, your maintenance team will

only focus on getting the best performance from your excitation systems.

Product Life Cycle notification (annual)

ABB will advise where the excitation systems are in the product

life cycle: Active, Classic, Limited or Obsolete. Customers will

receive recommendations depending on the status of the system.

It is a proactive approach to keep customers informed and to help

them plan excitation maintenance services efficiently.

Unlimited phone support

Technical phone support will be provided by the local support

center. During normal business hours (excluding holidays).

Technical support is also available for emergency cases, 24/7/365.

ABB PCMU The solution to mitigate risk and save costs on relay upgrades Relion 615 Series

The Relion 615 Series is a comprehensive family of protection relays per

fectly aligned for the protection, control, measurement, and supervision of

utility substations and industrial systems. It includes dedicated protection

relays for feeder, motor, and transformer protection.

The PCMU provides a seamless and cost effective way to re

place legacy relays. It reduces risk and saves money. A detailed

comparison of the PCMU series vs the traditional replacement,

which requires an adapter plate and is not wire-alike, shows

how users save time and money when replacing protection

relays and requires less personnel for less time.

The PCMU replaces DPUs of the 245. 445. and 2000 series

and MSOC relays. To request a training or quotation, contact

your ABB representative with the style numbers of your existing relays.

ABB PCMU The solution to mitigate risk and save costs on relay upgrades

The PCMU represents the best choice to replace ABB

legacy relays. It ensures a reliable, seamless upgrade due

to the risk reduction only a wire-alike solution can provide.

It also offers the lowest possible cost of installation in

the market by allowing you to use the existing wiring and

connecting it into the wire-alike terminals*. Additionally,

the time to update drawings after installation is virtually

eliminated since no changes in wiring are required.

PCMU benefits:

− Relion® REF615 technology – Provides the ideal solution

to upgrade ABB’s DPU245. DPU445. DPU2000 and MSOC relays

− Installation time savings

− Pre-designed wire-alike and pre-configured relay solution

to quickly and efficiently carry out the replacement (retrofit)

and minimize downtime

− Wire-alike solutions, plate that contains terminal blocks

with connection to REF615 relay pre-wired based on appli

cation requirements

− Installation can be completed in as little as 40 minutes

Form & fit– PCMU utilizes the existing cutout; no panel

modifications, cutting, or drilling is necessary (except MSOC)

− Engineering time savings – Save up to 70% of the time

required to update existing drawings after the upgrade

− Eliminate risk of setting conversions – Settings conversion

support is included to ensure your system keeps functioning

properly as soon as the new units are powered on

− Expanded communication capabilities – With the Relion

615. you can use Modbus, DNP3.0. or IEC 61850 for your

communications

− Advanced technology – Upgrade to the latest capabilities in

protection, control, metering, and fault recording

− Reduced risk of human error – Controlled and repeatable

procedure for replacing existing protection relays with modern

protection relay allows users to implement as standardized solution.

ABB PCMU Bus protection via GOOSE

Bus protection via GOOSE

The IEC 61850 implementation in PCMU MSOC includes

fast peer-to-peer communication, over the substation bus.

Use GOOSE communication between PCMU MSOC relays of

the incoming and outgoing feeders of a substation to form a

stable, reliable, and high-speed busbar protection system. The

cost-effective GOOSE-based busbar protection is obtained by

configuring the relays and the operational availability of the pro

tection is assured by continuous supervision of the protection

devices and their GOOSE messaging over the station bus. No

separate hard-wiring is needed for the horizontal communica

tion between the switchgear cubicles.

ABB PCMU MSOC Pre-emptive condition monitoring

Pre-emptive condition monitoring

For continuous knowledge of the operational availability of the

PCMU MSOC features, a comprehensive set of monitoring

functions to supervise the relay health, the trip circuit, and the

circuit breaker health is included. The breaker monitoring can

include checking the wear and tear of the circuit breaker, the

spring charging time of the breaker operating mechanism and

the gas pressure of the breaker chambers. The relay also mo

nitors the breaker travel time and the number of circuit breaker

operations to provide basic information for scheduling breaker

maintenance.
