Woodward easYgen LS-6XT Multi-Breaker control Description

Description

Woodward’s easYgen | LS-6XT control is synchronizer controller with integrated mains

decoupling and protection features. It enables several redundant communication

schemes with peer controls. The applications range from independent synch check

relay to complex power management system with multiple utility feeds, bus tie break

ers and group breakers in combination with Woodward’s easYgen-3400XT/3500XT

equipped genset controllers and/or easYgen | GC-3400XT equipped genset groups. Re

dundant busses running among the peer controls ensure that availability of your power

generation asset is not compromised to a single point of failure.

The LS-6XT control together with easYgen-3000XT controls are designed to support

OEM switch-gear builders, generator packagers, and system integrators standardize on

a single hardware for a multitude of utility parallel or island operations. Off-the-shelf

LS-6XT control is software configurable for one/two breaker control, gensets / genset

groups handling, and stand-alone/multi-unit application.

The LS-6XT controller is available in a rugged aluminum powder coated housing. An

LED Annunciator plate is integrated to the front for local annunciation of alarms that

are customizable on-site. Woodward easYview visualization panels are supported over

a separate Ethernet network that works as remote operator control panel.

FEATURES

• Enables several power generation topologies. Some frequently used are:

• only with easYgen-3500XT: 32 gensets, one generator group breaker and one mains circuit breaker

• with easYgen-3500XT and LS-5: 32 gensets and 16 breakers (Tie/GGB/MCB) or 16 gensets and 32

breakers on CAN bus

• with easYgen-3500XT and LS-6XT:  32 gensets and 32 breakers (Tie/GGB/MCB) on single or redundant

1 consists of easYgen (and also LS-6XT), Layer-2 group controls and Layer-3 LS-6XT. At Layer-1 total

496 gensets (16 x 31), at Layer-2 16 Group controllers and at Layer-3 64 LS-6XT on up to 128 segments

are supported. Communication between Layer-1 and Layer-2 controls is CAN, Ethernet A or hot redun

dant CAN/Ethernet A and between Layer-2 and Layer-3 controls is Ethernet B, Ethernet C or hot redun dant Eth B/Eth C.

Targeted at enabling complex power management applications, the easYgen-3500XT supports easYgen | GC

3000XT to manage a large genset fleet of up to 496 sets and easYgen | LS-6XT to control up to 64 synchroniz

ing breaker or manual switches on up to 128 complex bus segments. Redundant load sharing is selectable us

ing Ethernet B and C networks for enhanced reliability. The control combines complete engine-generator con

trol and protection with advanced, peer-to-peer paralleling functionality and innovative features in a robust, at

tractive, user-friendly and all-in-one package. The easYgen-3500 XT controls are designed to direct connect up

to 690Vac and operate to 4000m above sea level without derating.

The easYgen-3500XT is available in two packages. P1. focused at complex paralleling applications provides

redundant Ethernet communication, LS-5 connectivity, and standard I/O set, while P2. Co-Gen/CHP model

offers expanded onboard I/O set, 3-ph busbar voltage measurement capability and phase rotation monitoring

between gen-busbar and busbar-utility. These packages are available without a display in a rugged metal hous

ing suitable for back panel installations (easYgen-3400XT-P1 and easYgen-3400XT-P2 respectively). A sophis

ticated touch screen remote panel (RP-3000XT) complements them as an operator control panel.

A version of easYgen-3500XT (easYgen-3500XT-P1-LT and easYgen-3500XT-P2-LT) is designed to operate

down to -400 C for outdoor applications.

Woodward easYgen 3000XT Series controllers

Woodward raised the standard in genset paralleling control and power management system with the

easYgen 3000XT Series controllers. These controllers come with standardized software that is simple to

configure, yet easily customized for individual applications. Enhanced connectivity enables fast, reliable

and secure interfac ing to other controls and communications systems while the enhanced hardware is a

drop-in replacement for previous generation easYgen-3000 Series Controls.

An SFC provides multiple features, including independent reactive power control for both grids

and the capability to supply the railway from a weak three-phase grid with low short circuit

power, ensuring perfect voltage balancing between phases.

It synchronizes the SFC along the line using the Phasor Management Unit (PMU), such as the

GE Vernova Multilin N60. which assists in balancing power across substations. The system is

protected by protection and control relays like the GE Vernova Multilin Agile. Additionally, it

supervises and manages the entire traction power supply to optimize availability. Faults along the

line are located using Travel Wave Form Localization (TWFL) technology, enabling faster recovery

of line supply.

the catenary and the grid connections, enabling to

remove neutral sections along the catenary.

As reducing carbon emissions becomes a more pressing issue,

populations are looking for a way to reduce their travel emissions.

Electric railways are recognized as the optimal solution due to their

superior energy efficiency, reduced emissions, and lower operating costs.

This trend is supported by public investments as the rail operators need to increase

power capacity, pushing to upgrade old 3 kV DC distribution networks to 25 kV AC.

In certain countries, the single-phase railway network historically operates at a

frequency distinct from that of the public grid, rendering direct connections between the

two networks unfeasible and requiring frequency conversion.

In contemporary applications, Static Frequency Converters (SFCs) are employed when

the power capacity of the grid network serving the rail line is constrained or the cost and time

to bring a high voltage powerful grid network is prohibitive.

Additionally, some new rail line projects are integrating SFCs for enhanced system optimization.

Operators are increasing voltage from 3 kV to 25 kV to increase line capacity and reduce substation

counts.

A Static Frequency Converters (SFC) is an enabler of this transition,

To balance high renewable energy penetration in grid energy mix,

for greenfield projects (newly created lines), SFC substations can help ensure excellent
