ABB Power System Stabilizer (PSS)

Power System Stabilizer (PSS)

PSS can be an option to provide standard IEEE

421.5-2005 2A/2B/2C function. The PSS provision

is nowadays included in most grid codes. The PSS

is used for effective damping

of power oscillations caused by the physical power grid.

Software upgrades can be ordered and easily

enabled by password over the CMT1000. even

while the unit is in operation.

Common software and tool for the complete

UNITROL® 1000 product portfolio:

All UNITROL® 1000 products are based on

the same target software source code,

therefore equal performance can be seen with

UNITROL® 1010/20 as well as with UNITROL® 1005.

The same simulation models can be used for the

entire UNITROL® 1000 product family, making

UNITROL® 1000 products suitable for very

demanding grid code applications.

ABB UNITROL® 1000 Compact and powerful automatic voltage

Eco:

The ECO version covers essential functionality

for cost sensitive applications.

Light:

The light version adds to ECO standard

functions as rotating diode monitoring and

remote control via modbus. Furthermore, a

simplified data logger called history logger

allows the user to track the last two hours of

operation for analyzing.

Basic:

The BASIC version is the ideal solution for

applications with multiple machine operating

on the same busbar. Accurate reactive load

sharing via serial communication (VDC) and

fast automatic synchronization are the key

functionalities. Furthermore, a dual-channel

functionality and motor start sequence

functionality are supported.

Full:

Complex and demanding projects often ask for

transient recorders and plant clock synchronized

data logger function.

The FULL version has the capacity to meet these requirements.

ABB UNITROL® 1000 is provided with modern communication ports

UNITROL® 1005. UNITROL® 1010 and

UNITROL® 1020 are the latest products of

the UNITROL® 1000 family. For most reliable

operation, the communication and control

tasks are split into separate controllers.

The non-volatile flash memory of the AVR stores

events and data logs to enable fault analysis and

fast trouble shooting. Time synchronization is

done over Ethernet communication, and the

events and data logs are time-stamped.

UNITROL® 1000 is provided with modern

communication ports like Ethernet and USB for

connection of the PC-based commissioning tool CMT 1000.

Besides it is possible to power up the controller

of the device via USB port. Thus the user can

download files or configure the device even when

no input power is available. The AVR output stage

is based on proven IGBT technology, which allows

AC and/or DC voltage inputs from different

sources. UNITROL® 1005. UNITROL® 1010 and

UNITROL® 1020 are designed for a wide range

of ambient temperature and harsh environmental conditions.

Single or dual channel controllers: the main benefit of a dual channel system is its lower failure rate.

The changeover from one channel to the second channel is done automatically and bumplessly thanks to

UNITROL 1000 technology.

This guarantees higher availability of the overall system. It also allows you to stay online if one of the

channels fails. While a single channel failure would cause a trip of the system,

the dual channel controller allows you to find root cause and fix issue whilst the system stays running.

Full redundancy: in dual channel applications both the channels have independent power supply and

allow to be fully redundant in the operation.

ABB UNITROL® 1000 Gride code compliant product

Gride code compliant product:

• Many aging units require to be updated to newer standards.

• When PSS is required by the Grid Authority, UNITROL 1000 has the integrated PSS as an option for both

systems and devices.

Meaning you are not required to use any additional device to ensure compliancy with the requirements.

• The UNITROL 1000 FLEX System is supporting an alternative excitation power supply which will keep the

synchronous generator online in case of a network fault.

Premounted and tested systems: all systems are already mounted, wired and tested when leaving our

factory.

The systems can be mounted into existing or new cabinets easily. This reduce the engineering and

commissioning time, but still offers later configuration on-site by simple configuration and editable

documentation.

Emerson NextGen DeltaV SIS Smart Switches

NextGen DeltaV SIS Smart Switches

The DeltaV SIS Smart switches are “built-for-purpose” switches with DeltaV SIS specific software and

features to make them plug-and-play in the safety network.

DeltaV SIS Smart Switches require no configuration to function on the safety network.

DeltaV SIS NextGen Smart Switches and the legacy DeltaV SIS Smart Switches are the only supported

switch to be used within the LSN and GSN.

DeltaV SIS Smart Switches are different than DeltaV Smart switches (non-SIS) and are not

interchangeable.

The GSN requires DeltaV SIS NextGen Smart Switches or the

legacy DeltaV SIS Smart Switches with software release 4.2.14 or greater.

The GSN is certified according to the concept of black channel

per IEC61508-2. Therefore, the GSN hardware components

are considered as an interference free hardware component of the SIS.

Emerson DeltaV SIS™ GSN Hardware

GSN Hardware Includes:

• NextGen DeltaV SIS Smart Switches

• LSNBs to communicate with other LSNs throughout the GSN.

LSNB communicates over the GSN with other LSNBs,

allowing great flexibility and ease of system expansion.

Up to 16 LSNBs can publish safety data into one GSN domain

but the maximum number of LSNBs publishing information

depends on amount of data published by each LSNB.

There is no limit for the number of LSNBs subscribing to

information from the GSN. Prior to v14.LTS, only one domain

was supported within the GSN, starting v14.LTS and later,

up to 16 domains are supported within the GSN. Refer to

Books Online for more information about system capacities.

Only DeltaV SIS Smart Switches are supported on the GSN.

legacy DeltaV SIS Smart Switches with software release 4.2.14 or greater.

Emerson DeltaV SIS™ For Use in SIL 3 Applications

For Use in SIL 3 Applications

The GSN is certified for use in SIL 3 applications.

Wiring

The GSN requires the use of ScTP cable for the 100/1000 BaseT/

TX safety network.

The maximum twisted-pair cable length for the GSN for any

LSNB is 100 meters (328 feet).

The LSNB contains Ethernet ports to provide the redundant

communication for both the LSN and GSN.

Fiberoptic Wiring

Ethernet on the LSNB carrier are available for copper

only. DeltaV SIS Smart Switches can be connected using

fiberoptic cables.

Because fiberoptic cables do not conduct electricity,

they should be used in connections between buildings

or in plant areas where electromagnetic interference is present.

Fiberoptic cabling must be used where cable runs are longer

than 100 meters (328 ft.).

Emerson DeltaV GSN Description and Specification

GSN Description and Specification

Multiple LSNs can be connected using LSNBs. The LSNBs are

physically connected as a star topology (GSN does not support

network ring topologies). Starting with to v14.LTS and later,

the GSN can be logically separated in domains. A GSN domain

is a logical group of LSNs.

Refer to the latest DeltaV SIS Installation and Planning Guide

for details of network layouts and network cable shielding

requirements and power and grounding requirements for

the overall DeltaV SIS system.
