Motorola ACE3600 Advanced Control Equipment

ACE3600 is a state-of-the-art high performance Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) with

exceptional communication capability. The unit is designed to provide scalability and

modularity to optimize the performance of any control system.  The unit’s rugged

design offers compliance for the requirements of most demanding SCADA system

environments. Motorola has developed this innovative RTU to provide a cost effective

RTU solution by minimizing the installation and configuration time.

The ACE3600 is a powerful Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) in Motorola’s family of Supervisory Control And

Data Acquisition (SCADA) products.

ACE3600 provides an advanced data collection and processing unit with the intelligence required to

operate in sophisticated SCADA systems.

Advanced communication and networking capabilities include data transfer via two-way radio,

trunked radio, digital radio, data radio, cellular modems, IP networks, line modem and more.

Motorola ACE3600 Application Control Software

Application Control Software – Also known as “whitelisting,” this software blocks unauthorized

applications and code on PCs and RTUs. ACE3600 firmware protects user programs with this technique,

and ACE3600 configuration management tools on PCs are protected with McAfee™ Solidifier.

Encryption – An algorithm makes data readable only by a device with a specific key to decrypt the

message. Data stored within the ACE3600 is also encrypted using a 256 bit AES (Advanced Encryption

Standard), meeting FIPS 140-2 Level 1 requirements.

Unused Port Deactivation – Disable communication for any ports that are unused, closing a point of

access that could be exploited by attackers.

Time-Window Commands – When an application generates a command, it assigns a time window; after

the time expires, system components will not execute the command.

This can prevent replicating errors and commands of questionable origin from affecting the network.

Motorola ACE3600 Remote Terminal Unit ENHANCED SECURITY

ENHANCED SECURITY

Apply the same state-of-the-art security features that Motorola provides for military and critical

enterprise networks to your SCADA systems.

The ACE3600 supports a full range of best-practice security options directly within the RTUs for a self-

contained, autonomously secure system including:

Security Policy Enforcement – Define and install a single, coherent, system-wide set of

security configurations in every RTU.

Built-In Firewall – Filter IP communications by port, direction, protocol and IP address.

Access Control – User authentication tools, executed at the RTU or at the system server, verify specific

user access and determine if use is legitimate and allowed.

Role-Based Access Control – The system administrator defines job roles and assigns different permissions

so that each user is authorized to access only the parts of the system required for his or her job.

Intrusion Detection System – While allowing legitimate traffic, the ACE3600 identifies unauthorized

access activities like an attempt to alter an RTU program or drop unauthorized data packets. It blocks

these activities, logs the events and sends a report to the system administrator.

Motorola ACE3600 VERSATILE COMMUNICATIONS CAPABILITIES

VERSATILE COMMUNICATIONS CAPABILITIES

You want every opportunity to save money and optimize performance.

The ACE3600 RTU is designed to use a variety of digital and analog interfaces so you are never locked

into proprietary solutions.

This flexible communications capability enables the ACE3600 to connect with several local devices,

analyze the data and send that information to various other locations.

Data transmission and processing is supported simultaneously across multiple communication

media and industry standard data protocols including MODBUS, M-OPC, DNP 3 and IEC60870-5-101.

Motorola’s own MDLC data processing protocol is specifically designed to enable more efficient data

communication.

Transmit data over your narrowband radio network or utilize a broadband network and realize significant

data cost savings.

Furthermore, every RTU in your network can act as a communication node and/or a store and forward

data repeater to extend radio frequency coverage and save you the much higher cost of a dedicated

repeater.

Emerson M-series MD Plus Controller

Has the flexibility to meet your needs

Advanced operations. The MD Plus Controller is equipped to handle the DeltaV Batch option,

as well as advanced control functions.

You can also use advanced control function such as Neural and Model Predictive Control on the MD Plus controller.

Data pass-through. The controller is equipped with the ability to pass smart HART

 information from field devices to any workstation node in the control network.

This means you can take advantage of applications, such as Asset Management Solutions,

that enable you to remotely manage the HART information contained

in your HART or FOUNDATION fieldbus-equipped devices.

Prepares you for the future. As your system grows, you can expand your software license

to increase the number of device signal tags (DSTs) allocated to the DeltaV controller.

egin with 50 and expand to 750 DSTs. Control strategy complexity and control module

scan rates determine overall controller performance and application size.

A redundant controller may be added to back up an MD Plus Controller online.

The standby controller comes online automatically, with a bumpless transition.

For more information, refer to the I/O Redundancy product data sheet.

Emerson M-series MD Plus Controller Benefits-Easy to use

Easy to use

Total control. The controller manages all control activities for the I/O interface channels.

It also manages all communication functions for the communications network.

Time tamping, alarming, and trend objects are also managed within the controller.

The controller executes all control strategy with execution speeds up to every 100 ms.

Data protection. Each time you install data in a DeltaV controller, the installation information is automatically saved.

Likewise, when users make online configuration changes to a controller, the system stores these changes as well.

This way, the system always retains a complete record of all the data

that has been installed in the controller and any online changes that have been made.

Cold restart. This feature ensures that in case of power failure, the controller will restart without

manual intervention and without any other device present on the network.

Now, you don’t have to reboot from the workstation.

Simply set the restart state of the controller to current conditions.

Note: To prevent process disruption during a short power loss,

an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is available for the controller.

Emerson FloBoss™ S600+ Flow Computer Communications
