The MVME4905 is designed to be a drop-in

replacement for the VMIVME-4905 from GE-IP. The

MVME4906 is designed to be a drop-in replacement

for two VMIVME-4905’s on the same board.  The unit

offers the following improvements over the GE-IP

VMIVME-4905

• The MVME4906 can be configured as two VMIVME

4905’s with a different base address jumper and I/O

connector for each set of two channels.

• Onboard built in test emulates the VMIVME-4905

with a VMIVME-4911.  S/D section has its own base

address jumper.

• Optical Isolation

• Price is 30% less than VMIVME-4905.

• No external 15V supply is required.

• Conduction cooled version available.

As with all Merlin Embedded drop-in replacement

products, the MVME4905 will function with the

customer’s existing software and cabling that used for

the original product.  No changes are required.

Significant cost savings can be obtained by customer’s

who use multiple VMIVME-4905’s with the SR05

backplane and VMIVME-4911 for diagnostics.  The

MVME4906 is a dual VMIVME-4905 with a built in

VMIVME-4911 channel for diagnostics.

Communications Modules IC697CMM742 Functions

Functions

The IC697CMM742 Ethernet Interface (Type 2)

provides high performance TCP/IP communications for the IC697 PLC.

The Ethernet Interface (Type 2) plugs into a single slot

in an IC697 PLC rack and is configured with the IC641

PLC programming software.  Up to four Ethernet

Interface (Type 2) modules can be installed in an IC697 PLC CPU rack.

The Ethernet Interface (Type 2) contains three network

ports: 10BaseT (RJ-45 connector), 10Base2 (BNC

connector), and AUI (15-pin D-connector).

The Ethernet Interface automatically selects the network

port in use.  One network port may be used at a time.

The 10BaseT network port permits direct connection to

a 10BaseT (twisted pair) network hub or repeater

without an external transceiver.

The 10Base2 network port permits direct connection to

a 10Base2 (ThinWire ) network without an external transceiver.

The AUI network port permits attachment of a user

supplied AUI (Attachment Unit Interface, or transceiver) cable.

The AUI cable connects the Ethernet Interface to a user-supplied transceiver

that is directly connected to the 10Mbps Ethernet network.

The transceiver must be 802.3 compatible and must have the SQE option enabled.

PACSystem RX3i Universal Backplane IC695CHS012 Installation

RX3i Universal Backplane Installation

The RX3i system and its components are considered open equipment (having live electrical parts that may

be accessible to users) and must be installed in a protective enclosure or incorporated into other

assemblies manufactured to provide safety.  As a minimum, the enclosure or assemblies must provide

protection equivalent to a NEMA/UL Type 1 enclosure or an IP20 rating (IEC60529). The enclosure must

be able to adequately dissipate theheat generated by all of the components mounted inside so that no

components overheat.  A minimum space of at least 102mm (4 inches) as shown below is required on all

sides of the RX3i backplane for cooling.  Additional space may be required, depending on the amount of

heat generated by the equipment during operation.

heat dissipation.

Backplane Orientation

Backplanes must be mounted horizontally to meet product

performance and reliability specifications by providing

adequate airflow around the modules.  Other mounting

orientations may affect system performance and/or reliability

and are therefore not recommended.

PACSystem RX3i Universal Backplane IC695CHS012 Backplane Orientation

The PACSystems* RX3i Universal Backplanes provide a dual-bus backplane that supports PCI-based

(IC695) and serial (IC693 and IC694) I/O and option modules. The RX3i Universal Backplanes also

support Series 90-30 IO and option modules.  See the PACSystems RX3i System Manual, GFK-2314 for

lists of supported modules. The 16-slot Universal Backplane (IC695CHS016), and the 12-slot Universal

Backplane (IC695CHS012) include the following features:

▪ Terminal Strip on the left end for Isolated +24V input

▪ Backplane grounding point

▪ An integral grounding bar for connecting module/shield grounds

▪ Serial Expansion connector for connection to Serial Expansion and Remote Backplanes

▪ Slot numbers printed on the backplane that can be used as a reference for configuration.

Such events often require further investigation before a valid conclusion

can be reached. Traditional methods require an oil sample to be sent to a

laboratory for analysis. This can be a lengthy process before a diagnosis

sample can be taken and analyzed onsite, giving comprehensive diagnostic

information in less than 30 minutes. The Transport X² data can then be

uploaded and visualized in GE’s powerful Perception software alongside  the

readings from the online monitor.
