S500 remote I/O with Modbus TCP

ABB provides a configurator in the Automation

Builder tool, which allows the configuration of

Modbus TCP I/O stations with the communica

tion interfaces CI521-MODTCP or CI522-MODTCP

in the same style as the AC500 configuration. For

larger applications a Bulk Data Manager tool can

be used. The configuration can be stored in the

communication interface, which allows using

the configured station with any PLC or PC that

supports Modbus TCP. This e.g. allows the use

directly on other controllers or monitoring

systems as e.g. ABB Ability™ Data Center Auto

mation or external systems.

Thanks to the Modbus feature that allows

several masters to exchange data with the same

slave, it is possible to use the I/O station as

shared devices with up to 10 PLC CPUs.

When the AC500-eCo compact CPU is used as

remote I/O, it can be programmed with  Automa

tion Builder for local intelligence while communi

cating via the open protocols Modbus TCP or

Modbus RTU with a CPU that will then be the

master of this intelligent remote I/O station. The

AC500-eCo CPU can be expanded by I/O modules

from the S500 and S500-eCo range.

The electronic configuration files that are

provided by ABB for different fieldbus systems

make it easy to configure the S500 remote I/O

station in your engineering tool. The files such as

GSD and GSDML are available for download at

www.abb.com/plc. For Modbus TCP remote I/O

stations a dedicated configurator is included in

Automation Builder and for larger applications a

Bulk Data Manager tool can be used.

PACSystems RSTi-EP EPSCPE100 CPU Quick Start Guide Highlights

Highlights include:

 A built-in PACSystems RSTi-EP PLC CPU

o User may program in Ladder Diagram, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram.

o Contains 1Mbytes of configurable data and program memory.

o Supports auto-located Symbolic Variables that can use any amount of user memory.

o Reference table sizes include 2k bits for discrete %I and %Q and up to 2k words each for analog %AI and %AQ.

Bulk memory (%W) also supported for data exchanges.

o Supports up to 512 program blocks. Maximum block size is 128KB.

 Supports two independent 10/100 Ethernet LANs. LAN1 has only one port

 Server connections (or) up to 8 simultaneous Modbus TCP Server connections.

o 8 Clients are permitted; each may be SRTP or Modbus TCP or a Combination of both.

o up to 8 simultaneous Class 1 Ethernet Global Data (EGD) exchanges.

o When used in combination for optimal performance, user must not exceed

4 Channels for Server (Modbus/SRTP) & 4 Channels for client (Modbus/SRTP),

8 PROFINET nodes and 8 EGD data exchanges.

 Ability to display serial number and date code in PME Device Information Details.

 Operating temperature range -40C to 70C (-40F to 158F).

PACSystems RSTi-EP EPSCPE100 CPU Quick Start Guide User Features

User Features

The PACSystems* RSTi-EP EPSCPE100. is an enhanced performance standalone

1GHz programmable controller equipped with 1MB of user memory and four 

Ethernet ports to run real time deterministic control applications.

LAN1 is dedicated to highspeed Ethernet and LAN2 comprised of 3 switched ports

configurable as either an embedded Ethernet controller or an embedded PROFINET controller,

which provides the PROFINET functionality and supports only simplex mode of operation.

It is a standalone PLC that supports distributed I/O.

From now on in rest of the document this controller will be referred to as CPE100.

The CPE100 is programmed and configured over Ethernet via GE’s Proficy Machine Edition (PME)

software.

It can control/process up to 2K I/O points.

All four ports are located on the front panel, as shown in Figure 1.
